Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings was such a fun gig. First up was the fabulous Laura Gómez who told us the perfectly proportioned body is eight heads’ worth. It was then over to Neil McFarlane and cautionary coshing for the cautious coachable. Amber Phillips then told us about crisis cheese and Valentine’s edam before Cathy White told us about her cats, Arsehole, Shithead and Kevin. She named them after her neighbour’s kids. Kerry Thompson then had us wondering if AI might one day have us running out of male comics. It was then over to Elspeth Reid, who’s great with puppets and homemade cider vinegar shampoo, but not-eat control. Seb Fisher then introduced us to the curl and twist move that asserts alpha status. After Seb was Becky Jade who, according to her mum is just the right amount of autistic. Ciaran Millmore then told us just what a pinball high score means to him before Matt Withers claimed Rishi Sunak is just a Wes Anderson movie in human form: scratch the surface and it’s just a bit crap. Closing the first half was the hilarious Katherine Dellar. Kat is from the original K Hole. She got out and now can pull of an impressive power stance.
After the break the 3 Wise Men (pictured) got us off to an awesome musical start with Chippe Jesus, their upcoming Christmas single. Richard Taylor then told us about how disappointed with his ancestry.com subscription. Turns out all his ancestors are dead. We then had Mark Vincent, the man whose idea of being smartly dressed is have his zipper done all the way up. Tony Carr then explained why sitting in the front row of a Nativity carries no rusk; Joseph rarely does crowd work. Lord B’stard, aka Martin Bowman, explained the new tory policy of raising the pension age past death so those feckless ghosts are forced to do a day’s work. Callum Neate then explained why Budapest is so names. Once upon a time have the city was Buddhist, the other half Jehovah Witnesses. Gary Edwards then had it in the bag with his one-liner bag set before the wonderful Indi Madray confessed to possibly being possessed by a white Cockney racist called Stan. Closing the show was the prop comedy chaos of Neil Ben the man with an inexhaustible supply of puns from his big orange case.
So that was a fun afternoon. Headlining next Sunday we’ve James Townsendand Alan Jay Byrne.
