So Thursday night at Royal George Charing Cross Road was possibly one of my absolute favourite nights there in a long time, and after the past couple of weeks I’ve had did I need this. The night had quite a few new faces to G&B and several new acts with gigs in single figures and man did they bring the goods! First to the stage was the hilarious musicality of Jonny Brace and the problem with autistic dogs. Next was Sophie Stemmons and why vegans and puppies were once a tempting career path. It was then over to Nick Morey and why basic mobility might now be a bit gay. Susan Kitcatt then told us why Katie Pryce might be the answer to global plastics pollution. After Susan was Ian Shore and a probing set none of us will ever forget, no matter how much we and the Lego might try. We then had Matt Straker and the problem with those annoying free range babies. Closing the first half was the fabulous Phil Green, aka Dr Schlong 1980. The doctor is a hip dude with ample riz to go round. Just check his spare room.
After the break, and a little mind reading card magic, we got off to a cracking start thanks to Dylan Almeida and how his father has deep faked a more successful son. Next was Joe Anderton and the death of the internet before Meimei MacLeod explained just why the Beijing accent is China’s equivalent of Scouse. It was then over to Matt Brenner and why he gets in a panic if his pilot doesn’t speak English; he doesn’t want a translator if they’re about to crash. Danielle Scott then confessed to us that’s she’s on a management course…anger management! After Danielle was Dan Brookes and the irresistible drawn of Warburton’s products to a Northerner. Our evening’s penultimate act was Matt Withers (pictured), who was on absolutely cracking form last night. Matt wondered just what happened to make Tommy Robinson so bitter after leaving Time Team. Closing the show was the fabulously funny Arthur Mitchell. Arthur’s a dab hand in the gourmet kitchen. His Pot Noodle is legendary and now with added boiling water.
So that was an awesome night of comedy. Next Thursday we have Sue-the-Cleaner (aka Liam Harney) and Godfrey Mercado headlining
