Monday, October 23rd, Star of Kings

It was a fun and busy night at The Star of Kings on Monday with a lot of new faces to G&B. First to the stage was the hilarious musical comedy of Jamie McDonald and a little ditty telling Putin just what he thinks of him – spoiler alert, he’s not a fan. It was then over to Charlie Firth, a man who has caused so many problems for his parents, starting with their getting married. It wa then over to Tony Carr and the joys of the Great British Lollipop Lady elimination round before Frances Jane confessed to having lost contact with many of her uni friends. Fun fact, her fascination for fun facts might have helped here. Kerry Thompson was next with the essential 21st century coming out kit, complete with Beiber styling. Following up from his Abandoning The Comfort Zone set, Louie Falls then gave us some more Pokemon rap for the hypochondriac slacker. After Louie we had Richard Wheatley and how to do a Braille death threat. Barbora Beránková then gave some tips on just how to keep the English away from any serious conversations before Darren Smith wowed the room with some mind-blowing card magic. Closing the first half was the brilliant Callum Mackenzie who took us from pasta gunnery to feta genius and the joys of a British beach.
After the break we got off to a great start thanks to Felix Parkin and the best ever Henry VIII’s marriage rhyme for his school teachers. Jimmy Pringle then enlightened us as to the romance of a well hung knee. It was then over to Mark Masson and the sexual allure of a half, chocolate coated oat cake. The Swiss efficiency of a quick snip vasectomy was then explained by Marc Cohen before Martin Ashworth had us wondering if he might indeed be the next Messiah…or the last one. It was then over to Grace Shamlian, who hails from a Washington suburb, which is probably the U.S. equivalent of Slough. Dan Hough was next with how to simulate a passive aggressive flat-mate with nothing more than a pack of Post-it notes and a bottle of vodka. The evening’s penultimate act was Phil Green and just why he never wants to fly economy again. Closing the show was the hilarious Declan Kennedy (pictured) and everything from organised satanic worship to obituary puns and farting honey.
So that was Monday at The Star of Kings and it was a fun night. Headlining next Monday we have Alex D. Love and Billy Kerr.
