open mic comedy in Soho
Thursdays mean G&B is at Royal George Charing Cross Road and last night’s show was a load of fun. First to the stage we had Tabish Akbar and a simply genius idea for a new chess board. Next was Declan Evans and some great shoplifting advice: don’t try to nick a boomerang. It was then over to Leo Ma and his theory on gyms: are they just for dumb people to check if gravity is still working? Alexander Tang then told us why he is learning martial arts: he’s moved to Croydon. After Alexander we had Tristan Wolfe, who identifies as he/she/they are fabulous! It was then over to Joe O’Donovan and the original source of shame: school nits. We then had Jackie Linn and why asking for chicken wings in the Philippines might get you more than you bargained for before Phil Green proved he’s not a man you want to brag to, especially at Christmas, Closing the first half we had The Captain (aka Max Norman, pictured) and a some non-stop nautical nonsense that had the crowd cheering for more.
After the break, and a bit of Russian roulette with a fishing hook, I handed over to the evening’s guest MC, Felix Parkin. Before the night was out Felix gave us an insight into just how he once made friends at school. But before that he brought on the brilliant Pete Kinsella, whose dog has some interesting political views, but is quite liberal with sexuality and whose leg he humps. Kerry Thompson then almost kicked off a nerd battle with the origin story of Sketetor before Annabelle Minkova offered us a solution to the problem with The Elgin Marbles. Jakir Hussen then wondered whether an ouija board might help with his Tindr dates. It was then over to Ben Roberts, a man who has already tasted fame…and it was all milky and chocolaty. Next was Tony Carr and colonic cameras and the dignity of the well worn sock. Our penultimate act was Emmy Fyles who has dated a man with 3 uni-cycles, so you can’t say she’s not lived. Closing the show was the hilarious Harun Musho’d. Harun gave us some insight into the near fatal car crash biography by the son of the famously balding Princess Dianna.
So that was Thursday at The Royal George and it was another good one. Headlining next Thursday we have Theresa Bradstreet and Adam B.
