Thursday night at The Royal George was one of those magical nights where a cracking audience meets a great line-up of acts who were all upping their game. I haven’t had so much fun MCing a night in ages. First to get them roaring with laughter was Nick Morey, who’s been sending off 1000’s of job interviews for jobs he probably doesn’t want. It was then over to Paul Little and the trauma of losing your favourite pencil case. Next was Fred Bell, who was doing his bit to end the stigma of haemorrhoids. We then had Danielle Scott, who recently missed out on her hot girl summer for a lukewarm autumn. After Danielle was Ben Nizan and the essential guide to cussing on air pre-watershed. Tony Carr then explained why trying to be straight and normal is harder than it looks. Aarian Mehrabani then laid out his case for and against being the godfather to a cute baby. Rosie G then let rip that she wants to get herself some neanderthal banging. Closing the first half was the fabulous Mj Hunter, who confessed to being against murder and girthy moon cups…but for the C word in front of 7 year olds.
After the break the Aussie awesomeness that is Kim Hope got things going with how to avoid choking on a tampon. Next was Cameron Holder, a man from South Aftrica’s equivalent of Birmingham. After Cameron was Gav Webb, who’s looking forward to moving into his new two bed house…if it’s a particularly cold winter. We then had Nathan Jacobs, a man best described as pedestrian presenting. Hot on Nathan’s heels was Jordan Bonner whose collecting neurodiverse diagnoses like Pokemons. Next was a new face to G&B, Corinna Richards, a lady whose name means “precious one”…and that’s all you need to know! Mel Dram then offered Jesus some tips on how he could have enjoyed his 30s more before Gabriel Celaya told us why therapists really should have to date their ex-clients…just to show faith in their own work. The evening’s penultimate act was a last minute addition to the line-up. Just here for a few days before headlining back to Canada, the simply hilarious Lars Callieou offered some sage advice on why dating someone younger might be harder work that you think. Closing the show was the magical mayhem of the brilliant Stuart Turner (pictured). Stu had the crowd in awe and stitches with some mind reading and free hugs.
Well that was an incredible night at The Royal George. Headlining next Thursday we have Richard Stainbank and Phil Green.
