It was another really fun night at The Royal George (soho) Thursday. Kicking things off was Hamish Lloyd Barnes who had a tough Valentine’s, even getting jealous of tube trains that were getting more action than him. Declan Evans was next with a great way to save money on your grandparents’ funerals before Jim Hooker confessed to watching You tube on the living room TV now, so divorce has its benefits. After Jim was Jimmy Grimble and the secret on how to get an impressive collection of football autographs. It was then over to the glitzy fabulousness of SJ Wyatt. SJ’s revolutionaries meeting place is at a local Costa; they don’t agree with the capitalism, but the loos are clean. Ciaran Millmore then explained when exceptional food is a bad idea before Max von Husen taught us just what a hearty Emily laugh sounds like. It was then over to the hilarious John Pape and everything from mercy killings to Stevenage women and flowing red costumes. Yes, it was his hard hitting political set. Closing the first half was the brilliant Charlie Firth, a man who might one day be done for browser abuse. He’s also the reason his father keeps a healthy stock of condoms.
After the break, and a card trick that had a chosen card appear in someone’s pocket several rows from the stage, we got off to a great start thanks to the 3 Wise Men, a comedy duo of mellifluous silliness. Calum Di Lieto then left us with a bloodthirsty graveyard tale most of us will never forget. It was then over to Ollie Taylor who recently failed his DVLA exam and grew back his virginity. Lucy Clark then told of a romantic tale of love on an Italian boat. I think that was the gist… Charlotte Sanguinetti’s first ever set then hit us with everything from James Bond’s lasers to the Northern Line. Great first set. The gloriously puntastic Mark Rivlin was the evening’s penultimate act. Mark confessed to having once been fired for laughing, but he admits hearse driving wasn’t really for him. Closing the show was Callum Mackenzie. Callum had us wondering if Holland & Barret might just be Boots for people who ski and just what is the true power of the mic.
So that was another fun night at The Royal George. Headlining next Thursday we have Theresa Bradstreet and Mel Owen.
