Aarian Mehrabani
We had a fun time at The Star of Kings on Monday – starting with Mani Ahmed, who moved from the UK to Pakistan, where he had the joys of sharing British spices with his schoolmates – mostly Posh. Tony Carr gave us a new take on the first version of Grindr – someone with Covid looking for same, aka…Track and trace… before Steven Mayne shared that Coca Cola managed to sell bottled tap water to the masses, with added spunk. Neil Benson revealed a little-known benefit to having Parkinson’s – jazz hands – followed by Harry Legge, who provided lots of puns, though not a single Freudian ship. Closing the first half was the fabulous Stanislav Gunko. Stan says he’s very unhappy with the rain, cause even when he gets to Noah’s ark, he’ll still need a plus one. And though he is learning UK references, like Bob the Builder and democracy, he still can’t vote.
Our second half opened with Aarian Mehrabani (pictured) who was mighty proud of his 8-inch tumour. Before it was removed, it was his largest organ. Julia Holden shared the bonkers commute (and inherent dangers) of clown school, before Marco Del Valle gave us his Filipino heritage served with colonizer values: he still calls white guys daddy. Evan Henley described his stellar career as a kids party entertainer – he had them leaving in droves to spread the word of his mindblowing 5-hour periodic table powerpoint – followed by @chinsiriwardana (Siri) who says the best way to win every argument with your partner is to always be pregnant. We then had Sasha Alexander Putilin who finds UK shop titles confusing – Super Drugs are anything but super. Our closing act was the hilarious Tom Draper, who warned us against whimsy of any kind. World Book Day was spoilt for him as a child, cause when you’re dressed as a book, people want to slap your spine and take out your appendix.
So that was our night at The Star of Kings – join us on Monday February 23rd for the utterly puntastic, machine gun of puns, the brilliant Mark Rivlin, and the awesome singing hilarity of Jonny Brace.
