This Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings was an absolute banger of a show with some utterly awesome comedy that truly spoil the crowd with a non-stop barrage of great sets. First to the stage, and all the way from across The Pond, was the brilliant Karan Mehra and those annoyingly eager parents and their unsolicited kid pics. Next was the prop hilarity of Neil Ben, who gets really upset by the amount of ducks it takes to make one roll of tape. It was then over to Jenny Jope and just how persistent the Radio Times can be before Lincoln Ho told us that verbatim was just Latin for “swear to God, bro”.After Lincoln was Freddie Cornwell and just why England should know better than enter Ireland…with or without a condom. Hot on Freddie’s heels was Stanley Brown and some reverent Sunday material for the God-fearing among us. Andrew Conway then gave us some great tips on some quality cruising. Our next act, who was very much appreciated by our back row, was Jack Allen and why he’s the offspring of an absolute legend. It was then over to Richard Taylor, a man who’d like to be a bit of a player…mainly for the spare parts! The fabulous, mega ally that is Tracey Bowman then told us just how she was “about” in the 80’s. You go, girl! Closing the first half was Kieran Dee, a part time fart negotiator and full time member of the Balderatti.
After the break we got off to a cracking start thanks to Martina O’Sullivan and Christ’s nipples. Next was Alex Wegerer and why dry January can be a bit whiffy if you’re not careful. It was then over to Jordan Hunter and how the UN could solve many of the world’s conflicts by having a crack Halo team of Geordie mums. After Jordan was Janet Lynn. Tui was next with the wonderful idea of situationship insurance before Andrew Steel disavowed us of the notion that he isn’t that guy who runs those annoying sub-Reddits. Our afternoon’s penultimate act, and your MC for the rest of the week, was our very own songbird, the fabulous Barbara Fernandez. Barbara gave us a ditty dedicated to all those dysfunctional dads out there. Closing the show was the simply hilarious sketch group, Tuxedo Cat (pictured). I’m becoming a bit of a fanboy with this lot. Their stuff is well constructed and thought through and reminds me a bit of This Glorious Monster, who were for years my all time favourite sketch troupe. I reckon this lot are ones to keep an eye on.
