Wednesday, August 3rd, Arch One

It’s been an absolutely amazing week at G&B this week, jam-packed rooms, great acts and buzzing audiences. Well, last night at Arch1 was no different. First to the stage was the hilarious Louie Mclean and the problems of expressing shock or surprise without eyebrows. It was then over to Ben Pollard and a truly hilarious musical number dedicated to all those ‘daddies’ out there. Next was Henry Reilly, who claims to be an absolute karicachoor of an Essex man. It was then over to Ben Smolders and why the cartoons we grow up with dictate how, in later life, we

Wednesday, July 27th, Arch One

Well, due to the rail strike, we were expecting a quieter night at Arch1 last night. How wrong could we have been. The club was heaving! And what a brilliant audience they were, too. Duffy Connors kicked off the comedy with the confession he’s not great at sex with humans…and claims not to have much experience outside the ‘human’ field. It was then over to Monica Y Hsueh who believes she has the figure of a lamppost: long body, big head. After Monica was Matthew Healy, whom if he ever has kids is going Paleolithic with the names. His son’s

Tuesday, July 26th, Star of Kings

Write-up by guest MC Gary Manhine. It was an exciting night at The Star of Kings on Tuesday, what with basement floods and excited uproarious crowds upstairs enjoying England’s Lioness’s in the final of the Euro 2022. Nonetheless, a basement blast ensued as we kicked things off with the brilliant David Ian, who’s been getting dates to come around to his flat, just to force him to clean before they arrived. Next up was the sensational Ben Pollard, who’s been working on a book exploring the behind the scenes truth about the dog-kicking, incontinent, sausage fingered Tory party. All the

Tuesday, Star of Kings, May 3rd

Last night at The Star of Kings was G&B’s Music & Character Comedy Night, easily one of my favourite gigs in the G&B calendar. First up was Barry Allen (aka Mark Nicholas) who gave us some great advice: never look directly at The Sun, because its page 3 is crap nowadays. It was then over to Natalie Durkin and just why she wants a shed. It’s waaaaay darker than you might think. Daniel and Molly was next with everything from global politics to artificial intelligence and horny robots. We then had a bit of comedy class from Tasmin Sarkany and

G&B’s Dark Delights at Arch One, April 27th

So Wednesday night at Arch1 was G&B’s Dark Delights show, our dark comedy night. I love these gigs so much and last night’s basket of deplorables were just plain brilliant. Kicking things off we had Mike Strogi, who gave the show an explosive start as well as some tips on the right airline to book if you want to fly straight to the office. It ws then over to Tom Cousins and a little nostalgia for the greats of 70’s TV before Connor Yeates explained just why Gordon Ramsey’s advice that you should always eat what you make might have

Sunday, December 12th, Star of Kings

As we head closer to Christmas, the party buzz at the club gets livelier with each gig and yesterday’s Sunday show at The Star of Kings was no exception. Kicking things off we had the fabulous Lisa Carroll. Lisa describes herself as the BFG with tits and despite intimidating some men says she’s a fucking kitten! It was then over to Benjamin Bryant who’s had to endure a conversation with someone recently that was so peppered with racist dog whistles it’s a wonder dogs weren’t howling outside. Next was Flora Butter, a lady from a long line of nutritious spreads

Tuesday, December 7th, Star of Kings, Nightmare Before Christmas Show

Six years ago to the day was our first G&B’s Nightmare Before Christmas show, an evening dedicated to comedy’s darker side. It was from the success of this night we developed our Dark Delights shows (the next one is February 22nd), a space where acts could experiment with darker comedy in the knowledge an audience knew what was in store. Good dark comedy is possibly the most difficult to hone and perfect. Too often we see young comics come to the stage with tasteless gags that they think are funny and when they get a cold response from a room
