Tuesday, January 30th, Star of Kings

Seam Anderson
Tuesday night at The Star of Kings was our last show of January 2024 and sadly thanks to the rail strikes it was a quieter show than usual, but not devoid of its interesting moments. First to the stage was the fabulously irrepressible Nicky Vere-Compton, a one-person fairground attraction of sumptuous silliness and Rent-a-Ghost realness. It was then over to Chris Ford and the Devil’s yoga poses. It was then over to Dipak Patel, who goes from strength to strength these days, and everything from non-corner shops to kids and karma. We then had the glorious return of Robbie Fox, the man who sounds like he teaches classics at Eton but looks like he punches swans in Slough. We then had Darren Gaffney’s set, the take-away of which was to prove the spirit of Bernard Manning is alive and well. After Darren we had Charlie Firth, a man you can score a cheeky fiver from just by hitting him with some small talk. Samuel Love then gave us a fascinating history lesson in which we may have discovered when the pool cue was invented. Tarik Badwan then blew us away with his rendition of Joke on the Water with some spectacular fret work on the air guitar. It was then over to Calum Di Lieto who firmly believes Mount Kilimanjaro just isn’t doing enough to thin out the gap year bros. Closing the first half was the hilarious Mj Hunter and everything from cock shaming cats to beer flavoured butt plugs and the threesome that wasn’t.
After the break Adam B showed us all how to get some extra roughage in your diet via magic. It was then over to the brilliant Mel Owen who had the room in tears of laughter with some dating wisdom. Mel isn’t keen on dating guys in their 20’s as they’re a bit like having an excitable, un-housetrained puppy. Next was Harry Badwan and some beautifully penned applause breaks before Lord bastard, aka Martin Bowman, told us he was a real man of the people…just not those disgusting poor ones. Dimitar Vasilev then gave us a hint of the set he’ll one day being paid the bigs bucks at The Comedy Store for before Felix Parkin pondered the moral issues inherent in an unevenly squared bar of chocolate. Closing the show we had the fabulous Seam Anderson (pictured). Seam lost 4 stone recently by giving up sugar and smiling. He’s also a big believer in karma…because it pays!
So that was Tuesday at The Star of Kings. Headlining next week we have the political sensibilities of Matt Withers and the wonderful character comedy of Jon Wickham. See you then.
