Thursday night at The Royal George (soho) was another cracker of a show. First to the stage was Alan Jay Byrne an old school feminist who refuses to even tell Alexa what to do. Next was Mj Hunter who at best has offered his girlfriend a mild sexual Feng Shui. It was then over to Charlie Firth who’s had a tough life; there are night s when he gets home and his mother hasn’t left a thing for him in the oven, let alone a dessert. It was then over to Fred Bell and the most nostalgic garment since the Turin Shroud. After Fred was Toni Divic who bought a dog so he can look cool and fast when jogging. He bought a chihuahua. It was then the turn of Dónal Ó Catháin, who lives in Stepney Green, Bethnal Green’s less shabby cousin. It was then over to Jim Hooker, who advises us to never get into a situation where you have to explain pegging to a parent. Closing the first half was the truly puntastic Mark Rivlin (pictured). Mark’s quick fire, non-stop one-liners had the room gasping for breath and sore from laughing.
After the break, and a little mindreading magic, we got off to a great start thanks to Luke McCarthy, a man whom when you cut him will bleed gentrification. Next was Val Pop and everything from Churchill’s dentures to Brexit rejection. It was then over to Amelia Fritz who loves Amelia Earhart, a lady who set back the plight of female pilots for generations. Tim Purchas then told us about the very strange contents of a jar his father owns before Paul Certi explained just how his sisters taught him how to argue and win. We then had Mac O’Donnell who is beyond frustrated by his flatmate who seems to think street smart is better than GCSE’s. The evening’s penultimate act was the brilliant Phil Green and the tale of goldilocks and the three well hard bears. Closing the show was the brilliant Callum Mackenzie, the ex-nanny who can tell where a kid is on the potential serial killer scale by their attitude to losing Monopoly.
Well that was another great show at The Royal George (soho). Headlining next Thursday we have Marc Salmon and Sue-the-Cleaner (aka Liam Harney).
