Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings this week was a great show with some really impressive new acts. First to the stage was Kwami Odoom, whose constant love and support from his father is denying him the chance of becoming a tortured artist. Next was Claire Hutchison, not a big fan of football. In fact, the only thing she ever learn about football was from the Wagatha Christie trial. After Claire was Stanislav Gunko, who loves our government…mainly out of habit. Ariella Ashed was next with news that she’s discovered the secret of good parenting: 111 and computers. Will Haslam then explained why the NHS should be sold off to pay for swimming pools. Not local council ones, rich people’s. Radu Szasz told us to beware of Bianca’s revenge before Callum Mackenzie explained what Reddit advised on how to stop your baby biting: bite it back! It was then over to Con Barbour, who may know where to get the cheapest accommodation for sale in Putney. Dan Chalkley then hit us with everything from gunnery to Gladiators and the end of year disco before Calvin Smith offer his updated Seven Deadly Sins for the 21st century. Closing the first half was the fabulously funny Mark Vincent. Mark isn’t sure he gets the expression ripe old age; he’s not seeing any evidence of things ripening on himself.
After the break we got off to a great start thanks to Declan Evans. Declan’s doctor reckons Declan drinks too much, and trying to haggle didn’t help with this diagnosis. Emma Richardson then explained how you can tell if you’re giving birth to a serial killer before Stephane Young wondered if he might do better with a French accent rather than the one he has. Helen Song then had the room in stitches with the joys of being dumped, at any age. It was then over to Marc Salmon who’s not so much finger lickin’ good as he is finger tippin’ carnage. Sam Day then demonstrated just who he might look like and why this is a good and bad thing for a ginger. We then had Sarah Rowan who explained why as a Glaswegian, getting sent to public school is a guarantee of round the clock bullying. Lucy Clark was our penultimate act and told us just why the cock has been taken out of shuttlecock. Closing the show was the brilliant Katie Tweddle (pictured). Katie’s act is a tour de force of original silliness that defies simple explanation. So why not come see her do her thing and play her instrument at The bell on Tuesday.
So that was a really fun Sunday afternoon show. Headlining next Sunday we have Felix Parkin and Chris Ford.
