It was an interesting evening at The Bell on July 8th, with a fabulous line-up having to compete with a crew ripping up the road outside. Kicking things off was the hilarious Lucy Jenner and acronymic awesomeness of dyslexuality. It was then over to Jonny Blostone and the joys of a good royal funeral. Next was Sam Day, who taught the room how to slow clap. After Sam was Mani Ahmed and the mystery of those missing spices. Nigel Wolfin the told us he’s half way to couch to 5k; he’s done couch. Amber Phillips was next with the confusing evolution of the complicated ready meal before James Townsend led the room in some classic anger management techniques. Barbara Fernandez closed the first half with a little snippet or two of what to expect from her one woman show, Singing, Sagging and Shagging, which you can catch at The star of Kings on July 27th.
The second half started with an old favourite bit of magic and the giraffe trick before handing MC duties over to Martin Ashworth, who introduced the fabulous musical comedy of Eoghan Collins with a bang. James Allen then told us why he thinks the Brits are weird for paying the TV licence. Next was the joyous delight of Arabella Barrington Carr (aka Catherine Lamb), Poundland’s new diversity hire. Liam Mcgough then told us about the rough deal he got with pet names from his girlfriend. Kate McGhee was next with why too many lettuce options are a bad thing. After Kate was Lauren Rivers and why typhoid shots are needed for visits to Woburn. The evening’s penultimate act was Paul Little, who was once his parents’ favourite…until they got ok with the gays. Closing the show was the fabulous Martina O’Sullivan (pictured) and the guilt filled flying saucers that are the body of Christ. Hopefully she’s slept now because she hadn’t for weeks due to her glow-in-the-dark nails.
