Write-up by guest MC Martin Ashworth
Wednesday’s show at The Bell was a wonderful, welcome respite from the ridiculously hot weather. Opening the night was Indi Madray, explaining the complexities of being racially non-binary. Next up was Mani Ahmed, who somehow has never been sunburned. After Mani, Joe Anderton shared his appreciation for modern modern music like Charlie X Box, beforeSteve Tait claimed he could see the Northern Lights from the Asda car park. Making her first appearance at G&B was Adele Brett, who genuinely has brothers called Craig and David. We then had Marco Del Valle (pictured), proudly displaying Asian excellence, before Ian Colyer closed the first half by reminding us not to be fooled by the accent, because he’s definitely not from a posh background.
Opening the second half was Prakash Mistry, the self-described second best dressed act of the night and a man who identifies as bossman. Next was Lucas Main, making his G&B debut after moving to London purely because of his love of trains. After Lucas, Ben Philipsborn showcased the only three karaoke songs his dad apparently needs. Marc Meakin then reflected on life as a serial procrastinator, before Sam Gray rolled out his uncanny Ray Winstone impression. Closing the show was Nigel Wolfin, whose boss turned out to be something of an Excel bully.
Join us next week for the fabulously filthy, utterly hilarious Indi Madray and our very own songbird, the marvellous Barbara Fernandez.
