Wednesday night at The Bell would have been an unbearably hot night it it wasn’t for our kicking air con, and we made the most of the cool with some great comedy. Kicking things off was Amber Phillips and why manual labour has some odd translations. Next was Aarian Mehrabani and why he reckons there should be more Iranian gay men than there actually is. We then had Tony Carr, who recently was told he might need a hearing aid. Problem is, it might cost £3,000 and he doesn’t know anyone he’d want to listen to that much. After Tony was Jenny Jope whose hoping the radio Times might have undiscovered rejuvenating qualities. Pyjama man then got out a block of wood and played a live version of audience whack-a-mole before Thomas Popiolek gave us some comedy breathing exercises and Hinge advice. Closing the first half was Nick Morey and everything from day drinking to Spice Girls boat parties to hen dos and gay immigration.
After the break, and some shockingly dangerous magic, Richard Wheatley got things going with a little appreciation of the Scotts abroad. Next was Lin Sheng and the well run orgy. After Lin was Jake Jaffy, who quietly admits to having a favourite child: his new robo-cleaner. Miles Karter then assured us that he wasn’t the sloth from Ice Age. After Miles was Karen Kavanagh and why a little bit of testosterone goes a long way…to a criminal record. Hot on Karen’s heels was Alex Lam then told us quite a lot about the home town of Katie Hopkins. Our penultimate act was Sam Harper-Booth, who is bucking gay cliches by being close to his mum and doesn’t speak to his dad. What!? It’s not a cliche on Pride Month. Closing the show was the fabulous Andy Brittain. Andy hit us with everything from psychological assessments to tramp stamps and whistling to the correct mode of dying.
