Thursday night at Royal George Charing Cross Road was the first of G&B’s Geeks & Nerds Show Shows and what an amazing night this turned out to be. I wasn’t sure if this idea would work, but the atmosphere of last night’s gig was enough to convince me we’ll be doing them again. First up was the wonderful Kirsty Mann, occasionally known as Pearl harbour, Doctor Mann or that hysterical UBER passenger. It was then over to Gary Manhine and his impressive collection of swear jars through the ages. And who knew Churchill was so foul mouthed! We then had Ali Shahrukhiand the true definition of a meteorologist: someone who screws up your barbecue. Next was Gabriel E. Bowker and Scruffy (pictured), the autistic support animal. I think we’re all eager to see more of this double act. After Gabriel was Alex Lisztwan and everything from Ancient Greek musical theatre to Viking Venn diagrams. Everyone’s favourite Barbie girl, David Ferguson, was next with news that boys maybe don’t keep dolls, but men collect. Marco Chiu was hot on David’s heels with the magic of Chinese script if tattooed in the right place and spelt correctly. It was then over to the mellifluous Barbara Fernandez and the Bermuda Triangle that is her cleavage; she’s lost two husband’s down there! Closing the first half was the magical Adam B who literally wowed the crowd into a standing ovation the ultimate in nerdy magic with the Rubik Cube.
After the break we got off to a cracking start with the beautifully boonkers Nicky Vere-Compton and why an affair with Tiger Lilly can be problematic in the circus. Peter Innocente then gave us the ill-groomed Messiah before Rosalie Van Onzenoort confessed there’s some thing she’s just not that impressed by. It was then over to Jedi Master Andrew Dipple who gave us a plethora of Star Wars punnery that had the room in tears of laughter. Courtney Cornfield hit us with everything from Grammar Nazis to German verbs and unprotected sex. It was then the turn of Joe O’Donovan and just why Hitler’s mum was potentially a bit of a bad ass before Declan Kennedy closed the show by bringing Blakes 7 to a new generation of sci-fi fans lovers of washing up liquid bottle space ships.
Well that turned out a really fun night. I’ll be looking for a date for our next one in the summer. Meantime, next Thursday is G&B’s Music & Character Comedy Show.
