May 19th, G&B’s Dark Delights, Star of Kings

Anastasia aka Marigold Lately
Monday at The Star of Kings was our Dark Delights show, our evening dedicated to comedy’s darker side. First to the stage from the basket of deplorables, and kicking things off with some solid Jimmy Saville material, was the fabulous Calvin Smith. We then had Tony Carr and why dick pics were so much more labour intensive back in his day. It was then over to our current New Act winner, Vyome Singh, who seems to be a big fan of our previous act…and funerals. Ben Marciano then explained why his nan has him blocked on Facebook, but it might be for the best. It was then over to Mac O’Donnell and how to tell what sort of area you live in by the amount of security its fast food outlets have. After Mac was our very own songbird, the fabulous Barbara Fernandez and some delightful dark family history. Michael Aicken then explained why journaling didn’t work for Hitler before Marc Cohen made the hilarious confession about getting porn on prescription and some friends from the rhyming slang cliche bin. After Marc was Anastasia (aka Marigold Lately – pictured), a lady who’d just woken from a 40 year coma and desperately trying to adjust to her new, adult body. Closing the first half was the outrageous Sally Porter. Sally had the crowd in absolute stitches, which is a bit of a break for her as she usually has her fans in chains and handcuffs.
After the break, and a brave member of the audience offering a hand with some magic, birthday gal Lauren Buck kicked things off with the news that she’s #1 on the frequent cryer list. Web then had Eytan Bayme and why to never share a chapstick at a strip club. Matt Smith then questioned whether God might just be a little bit insecure before Sophie Stemmons said she might just have fallen into being gay due to her desire to commit to a bit. It was then over to David Owootomo, whose mum is a ninja cock-blocker. Matt Eley was next with why having kids is great for blaming your internet history on. Our penultimate act was Mani Ahmed, a man who has done his bit to end entitlement in campers. Closing the show was the hilarious Duncan Hart. Duncan gave us everything from shocking ECG charts to Mary Poppins, diabetes and the phantom of the operating theatre.
So that was another of our Dark Delights shows. Our next one is on July 9th at The Bell.
