Monday night at The star of kings was an absolute riot of laughter from start to finish. Kicking it all of we had the hilarious Rohan Ashar, a man who’d rather throw a chair than drive a car. It was then over to Martina O’Sullivan who educated us all on the notion of “notions’. After Martina we had Chiff Powell, a man who can’t grow a beard, but has no problems growing chins. Next was Leonore Michalski aka Noni who explained just what “cuffing” season was. Mark Daniels then posed the question, can brunch be done sideways? Well, it depends just how drunk you get, it seems. Tony Carr was next with his take on why some prefer the Chinese alphabet before Steve Tait gave the most fabulous mispronunciation we’d heard in a long time. It was then the turn of Ben Marciano who still wonders if he actually has any mates, or just a lot of mirrors. Closing the show was G&B’s Growing Old Disgracefully winner, the fabulous Georgia Thorp. Georgia admits she’s not one for change of any sort. She’s only got 2 songs on her playlist and has only just started putting that on shuffle.
After the break we got off to a great start thanks to Eoghan Collins and whether the spirit of Lourdes can be found in a nightclub loo. It was then the turn of Jim O’Callaghan and lots of notions, which we fortunately understand now. Bence Kocsis than explained the Christmas tag team of Santa and the baby Jesus before Mani Ahmed had us all pray to whatever God we believe in that Mani’s dad never sees his comedy. It was then over to Alexey Potemkin (picturted) and why Dostoyevski might not be the right literary diet for a 6 year old. After Alexey was Nina who is a natural blond. Opinions to the contrary may be racist. The afternoon’s penultimate act was Emerson Young, the man with a head for traffic noises and a potential doppler effect. Closing the show was the fabulous Jim Hooker. If Jim starts to make it big down his way, one day he hopes to headline at “Comedy by Chantelle’.
So that was Monday at The Star of Kings. Next Monday is our final show of 2024 at The star and headlining we’ve Rohan Ashar and Tony Carr.
