Mel Owen
So Monday at The Star of Kings was an incredible night of comedy. Several times throughout the night I said out loud how much I loved my job ???? First to the stage to kick off the laughs was the brilliant Ro Dodgson. Ro’s always uncertain when guy’s chat them up. Especially when they ask how old Ro is. James Sutton realised just why his flatmate’s think he’s weird before Dipak Patel explained how his daughter gets the best and worst of both worlds of white privelage. It was then over to Jacob Tidmarsh and why a make-over can justify a take-over…just ask Tony Blair. Sophie Mckay then told us how her 7 year old self had so many dreams and ambitions…many of which somewhat contrary. It was then over to Pete Picton who was more nervous than King Charles opening a DNA test to find Harry really is his son. After Pete was Victoria Barry who is not a sink hole, but may indeed have hidden depths. It was then the turn of Tahsin Guner and the right wing politics of the penis before Miraj Mehta lamented his recent break-up. Turns out she lied and did want something more than a guy who’d make her laugh. James Allen then assured us he was still, no matter what, going to keep calling it Twitter. Closing the first half was the hilarious Callum Mackenzie, a true advocate for the British beach who had some great life hacks for us. The best of which is how to get free meals in a restaurant.
After the break we got off to a great start thanks to John Pape and a bit of celeb gossip: Harry Styles has piled on the pounds. At least he thinks it was Harry. It was then over to Sophie Bing who isn’t good at being sexy at volume. After Sophie was James Wood and the dark journey of the grapes of wrath. Martin Ashworth was next with the news that he has so much in common with Jesus…and some of his family dynamics. Laura Madewell told us just how much she thinks should be spent on an engagement ring…so get the hint, Adrian! The evening’s penultimate act was Charlie Firth and the problems with weighted blankets before “nodding off”. Closing the show was the fabulous Mel Owen (pictured). Mel had the crowd in tears of laughter on Monday. Despite praying not to be straight, and failing dismally, Mel’s mum remains one of her biggest supporters…and critics.
It’s easter Monday next week so no show at The Star of Kings. However, we kick things off at The Bell next week starting with G&B’s New Act Competition at The Bell on Tuesday.
