Will Haslam
So last night was the last Tuesday at The Star for a bit. From next week we’ll be there Sundays and Mondays, then Tuesdays and Wednesdays at The Bell. So what can we say about last night. Well, as everyone there would testify, it was very much a collaborative effort. It’s just a shame G&B’s silent partner couldn’t be there to take some of his long overdue credit (you had to be there!). First to the stage was Kwami Odoom, a truly humble guy. Arguably not the most humble, but easily in the top 5. Declan Evans was next with news of his two half brothers. His dad used to be a magician, so they weren’t always half brothers. After Declan was Henning Nilsen, the comic with the best man down a well impression in the business. G&B’s poet laureate, the brilliant Jack Scullion was next. I’ve become a bit of a fan bot of Jack’s sets. I know no matter how a night is, Jack will have a room in absolute hysterics of laughter. Last night was no different, and his waiter, Raoul, was a most excellent co-star. Mahesh Khilnani was next with the sad news that he has been suffering bullying at work. He works from home…his parent’s home! After Mahesh David Robinson who moved to London for his love of being brassic. It was then over to Mac O’Donnell who’s not a big lover of our special needs fruit or our weak assed summers. After Mac was Caryn Ovadia. Caryn is a regular gym goer; she goes the same day every year. Elizabeth Easter was next with news that steak and blow-job day for vegetarian’s is tofu and tit wank day. Closing the first half was Mj Hunter. MJ has been with his girlfriend for 8 years. She got a round of applause. Unlike the pigeon that bullied him, which got booed.
After the break we kicked off with the enlightening energies of Master Yogie Belle (aka Michael Yanny) who cleansed our chakras by guiding us in a rendition of Balloon On A Stick. Our next act, Henry Morris, was a fully qualified, academic comic with letters after his name and the certificate to prove he is funny. It was either that or his registration for a mini-marathon. It was then over to the simply hilarious Gwenno Dafydd who is 52% Welsh and 48% Malteser and has grown her own therapist. After Gwynno was Zan Petreski. Zan has been told he could be George Clooney’s body double, if Clooney worked in a kebab shop. Ironically, the only time Zan shut the f**k up last night was during the last 2 minutes of his set. It was then over the the brilliant Will Hasntsheep aka Will Haslam (pictured) who reckons the going rate for his moral compass is around 30K…with private medical insurance thrown in. It was then over Jakir Hussen who recently tried the martial art of eight limbs, only to discover he’s still not quite mastered the four he started with. Abhishek Wagle was the evening’s penultimate act. Abishek has one of those incredibly valuable friends, the kind that love to tell you just what you should be offended by, often at the wrong moment. Closing the show was the prop comedy chaos of the brilliant Richard Woolford. Richard rounded the night off fabulously with his Eurovision entry. The knee song. Fabulous!
Well that was our last Tuesday at The Star for a while. Next Tuesday is G&B’s New Act Competition at The Bell. See you then.
