Monday, May 26th, Star of Kings

Joanne Degarian
It was a packed and buzzing bank holiday at The Star of Kings on Monday. Kicking things off was Jonny Brace, who still hasn’t gotten over a certain comic’s girthy musicality. It was then over to Megan O’Brien who blew our minds by telling us the Essez accent is the UK’s sexiest. We then had the hyper funny, double ginger Sam Day, the man with the asthma inhaler in his pocket…we hope. Next was Stanislav Gunko and the problem with boundaries…for Russians. After Stan was Paul Bradley and how to spot you’re being robbed in Kentish Town. It was then the turn of Guillaume Kayz and a set that took us from Kafkaesque dogs to Hackney crackheads. After Guillaume was Martina O’Sullivan who’s unfollowed God, but still loves a good Conclave. Eve Perry then told us of the essential tool to fail an interview: a jar of your wisdom teeth. Rohan Ashar closed the first half with some tips on Pronouncing his name and what really constitutes a proper curry.
After the break we got off to a cracking start thanks to the professor of the profane, the hilarious Gordon MacSween and everything from bawbags to bellends and dickheads to Boris Johnson. Eoghan Collins was next with what it’s like living with the Joe Rogan of WhatsApp, which might not be the best way to refer to your Mrs. After Eoghan was G Watson with the joys of having Scottish roots and a genetic need for statins. It was then over to Sudeepta Sanyal and why a 10 handed goddess is a tough role model to have. Next was Joanne Degarian (pictured), a killer for hire and a loather of dogs for free. It was then over two Andy Brittain, a man hoping to break the trend of coming from a long line of arseholes. The evening’s penultimate act was the brilliant Marcos Brito who gave us some homohop and dicktastic rap. Closing the show was the hilarious Charlie Firth. From proper, respectful building site banter to how to shut down any cool you might have had at a football match.
So that was a fun bank holiday at The star of kings. Headlining next Monday we’ve Tom Draper and Michal Uchal.
