Tuesday at The Star of Kings was another cracking night of comedy. First to the stage we had the hilarious Mark Vincent, a regular at Nits & Ringworm, his local Wetherspoons. The fabulously pun-packed James Loveless was next and had us wondering what has the baby agreed to with those “Baby On Board” badges. Nick Gaughan then told us how much The Church loves the gays…well, only if no one’s looking and those lying choir boys keep their dirty, grassing mouths shut. It was then over to gameshow host Dick Speed (pictured – aka James Watkins) and the messy box of wonder before Lisa Murphy gave us some fox dictatorship and the Essex bin conundrum. Con Barbour then took us from sportsmen to Keir Starmer via National Rail train shagging. After Con we had Tej Master who has recently begun acknowledging his increasing age due to the NYE Times Square ball drop going on in his underwear. It was then over to Tony Carr and the news that if you’re the third child you were probably a mistake. After Tony was Phil Green and the real T on what really went on with Goldilocks and those bears. Closing the first half was Mr Corporate, Phillip Cornwall. Phil – a man with no pronouns, just adjectives – had us taking the red pill and releasing our inner thought rhinos.
After the beak we had a quick bit of card magic before The 3 Wise Men (Tom Keenan & Bunny Hopkyns) had the room in mellifluous hysterics with their unique brand of musical comedy. Auz Thompson then raised the bar with some poetic neurodiversity before Freddie Main told us he was the bit of rough at the private school he works at. Victoria Barry then explained the class system behind national disasters going from council estate sink holes up to the classier Swiss avalanches. Hot on Victoria’s heels was Felix Parkin. Felix is from Telford, which for several years held the EU record for teen pregnancy. So he’s from a community of overachievers. It was then over to Bernard Guff (aka Josh Harvey), myth buster, ghostbuster and all round divorce buster since 2019. The magical Adam B was next with some mind boggling, finger flicking Rubik cube solving magic before Paul Little had us all wondering if we might have heard Paul before…late at night near the bins. Closing the show was Jack Scullion, comedy’s Phillip Larkin’ about of interactive poetry. Thanks to his assistants, Jack took us on a sumptuously silly romp through his literary prowess and borderline insanity. What’s not to love.
So that was last night’s show and it was another belter of a night. Next Tuesday is another G&B’s Abandoning The Comfort Zone Show where the acts try their hands at something completely new and out of their comfort zone. Headlining we have the fabulous Slack Janets (Sallyann Fellowes and Martin Dixon) and the batshit brilliance of Colin D.H. Smith.
