Tuesdays are G&B’s double gig nights and I was MCing at The Star of Kings while Barbara was over at The Albany. First to the stage at The Star was the hilarious Felix Parkin and the joys of funeral flows and the rest of the dead. It was then over to Jim Hooker who reckons Romford is just Chanel 5 Live. We then had the rainbow of comedy that is SJ Wyatt and why moving to Deptford is the best place to be if you have a somewhat dubious life ambition. After SJ we had Vlad Cloud-u and just why getting a close shave in the jungle may have been Tarzan’s most impressive feat. Next was Chris Cowan and why 1001 Housekeeping Tips might need a bit more specific details in its advice. Conor O’Grady then explained why as a nervous flyer he’s not keen on Wow Air as any airliner who gets excited by their own flying might not be for him. It was then over to Robin Banks who reckons cats are more intelligent than dogs. After all, you never see a homeless person with a cat. Hot on Robin’s heels was the brilliant Phil Green and the difference between Gen Z’s and Millennials: one has a healthy attitude to mental health and the other has property. Closing the first half was the genius of Ali Shahrukhi who works from home because of the commute. Unfortunately there was a body under the duvet the other morning which caused all sorts of delays.
After the beak, and some chilling magic and arithmetic, we got off to a great start thanks to Seam Anderson, the guy who doesn’t eat bread, pasta or rice. So he’s a gourmet keeper, ladies. Our next act was the frankly awesome David Sands (pictured). The striking originality, energy and joy David brought to the stage was beautiful to watch. If you want to see what I’m talking about, you can catch him at The Royal George on Thursday. Next was Joe Perry and some interesting cooking tips for those who really don’t want to be parents. After Joe was Alastair Sadler, who has embraced being missile aged and the creepy superpower it brings. It was then the turn of David Goodmaye who has spent a lot of time in organised fretting…but not with Lego! Our penultimate act was Joe McNamara, whose nan is a bit of a secret adventurer…and compulsive liar! Closing the show was Mr Corporate himself, the fabulous Phillip Cornwall (pronouns and adjectives: dynamic and assertive). Phil took us through the corporate skills on how to spin buls**t and delusion into various fonts and shades. brilliant.
So that was last night and what a fun show it turned out to be. Headlining next Tuesday we have Declan Kennedy and Adam B.
