Tuesday, June 4th, The Bell

Phillip Corwall
Tuesday night we were at The Bell in Aldgate and it was a fun night. First to the stage was the fabulously funny Mj Hunter who started the night with a quick straw poll on whether everyone thought he was, well, the more passive half of his relationship. It was then over to Tony Carr and how to kill the joy in your life: have kids. Next was Declan Evans and an adoption revelation he wasn’t expecting. After Declan was Mac O’Donnell and why a tan hides a lot of cultural deficiencies. Robin Cousins was next with news that he’s a big fan of whales…but no so much of dogs. It was then the turn of Mark Rivlin, the human pun machine. If what he was saying is anything to go by, he’ll never be allowed to drive a hearse again. After Mark was Dipak Patel. The pronunciation of Dipak’s name seems to vary depending on location and racial intolerances. Closing the first half was Charlie Firth. Charlie took us through some of his tips to social media success and pity party smackdowns.
After the break, and a little body language magic, James Sutton confessed to a sock fetich before Chaira explained the joys of Jamaica, from a being single perspective. After Chiara was Jill Duncan, an enthusiastic skydiver and all round f**k you to anyone trying to put her in a predictable box. Dónal Ó Catháin was next with why Clapham just isn’t for him before Laura Madewell told the crowd that if you don’t have what you want clear in your mind you’ll never get. You hearing this Tiffay’s! The evening’s penultimate act was the brilliant Phillip Cornwall, aka Mr Corporate. Phil gave some tips on how to break the habit of speaking corporate bullshit, but admits it’s an ongoing struggle for many. Closing the show was our reigning queen of the All Stars, the awesome Kim Hope. Kim told us she’s 39% English, 37% Irish, 12% Scots and once upon a time 80% Chardonnay.
So that was last night at The Bell. We’re back next Tuesday and Wednesday. See you then.
