It was a cracking busy night at The Bell on Wednesday and kicking off the laughs was the hilarious Amber Phillips and how she managed to make a career out of her favourite pastime: correcting people’s grammar. Next was Jonny Brace and why needing ear defenders might be a sign you’re on the spectrum…in Essex. We then had Mark Vincent who realised too late that the man giving him a cavity search might not be a real dentist. It was then over to Roger Gewolb, possibly comedy’s worst ever athlete. Ella Clark then lamented her recent serious diagnosis: she’s heterosexual. After Ella was Riley Barrasford, a man who looks like he’s hiding waaaaay too much. Hot on Riley’s heels was Tony Carr, who might be barred from his local Boots. Charlie Firth, aka Chrispie, then told us about his years in private school and its painful, triggering nicknames. Closing the first half was Martin Ashworth, who’s loved by his parents, just not as much as Battersea Power Station shopping centre. But he’s keeping it together with the hope we might eventually elect a bin.
Kicking off the second half was the fabulous Charlotte Imbert and Tesco’s greatest hits video of her best shopping moments. It was then over to Alex Farrell and why Stevie Wonder and Aarian would be great judges on The Voice. After Alex was Tom Popiolek who got us into a sing-a-long, I think. Karen Cavanagh (pictured) then told us the answer to life, and it ain’t 42. It’s vaginal rejuvenation! Sam Gray then told us of cosmic coincidences and astronomical horoscopes. After Sam was the utterly puntastic Mark Rivlin, the AK47 of one-liners and big fan of Robbie Williams. After Mark was Jenny B, who tells us she’s from Russia…just near Notting Hill. Our penultimate act was Matt Tuplin, a man who’s been getting into conspiracy theories lately, but not the boring stuff; he’s making up his own, starting with Guy Fawkes being a shill forth fireworks industry. Closing the show was the simply brilliant Aarian Mehrabani. Aarian explained just why there are certain things you can only say after the second time you’ve met someone and why you don’t need to see the cock to appreciate it
