Sunday afternoon, September 10th, Star of Kings

Sallyann Fellowes
It was a busy afternoon at The Star of Kings Sunday and on top of a great line-up of comedy we had several wonderful new acts who, despite all being in single figure gigs, delivered some really awesome sets. First to the stage was the brilliant Jamie McDonald who gave us a musical ditty to Kathleen the Cannibal and Homo Erectus. Next was Caroline Madds and how to win at the bottomless brunch…you need a mate called Sharon. It was then over to Seraj Alijan who comes from a long line of Baghdadi daddies. Valerie Steele then confessed that she may or may not have left something, or someone, at a bus stop…25 years ago! After Valerie was Chris Cowan who’s apparently not great at looking autistic, but can convey bitch with a single glance like a pro. Tomas Slater was next with an answer to that age old question: do gay men cuddle. If you want to know the answer, go see him perform! Stacey Edwards and the décolletage Curley Wurley and other assorted confectionaries. We then had the hilarious Jen Etherington, who hails from the hub of fame that gave us the world’s first roundabout. Becky Jade then told us all about having adopted a proper lad, one that is supple enough to “self-satisfy”. Well, you gets what you pay for when you adopt a cat. Hot on Becky’s heels was Jack Spoole, who recently lost a fair bit of weight only to discover it’s sooooo not about the health benefits. Maxim K was next with news that he’s definitely not a Russian spy…thanks to his bad Russian accent. Mark Vincent then shared with us the fact he has recently been diagnosed as being 40% scrotum. It was then over to Kim Hope who is a big fan of British passive aggressive bitching or, as Kim calls it, stealth rudeness.
After the break we got off to a cracking start thanks to Emmy Fyles and the truth behind why true crime podcasts are quite so popular. Next was Callum Calvert who goes to the gym less to be fit and more to make people wonder if he will fit. After Callum was Max von Husen and pre-school hilarity for soulless babies. Joey Abels offered up a very reasonably priced bus trip before Pippa Chappell confessed to being an artist’s muse, soon to become the Mona Lisa of comedy. It was then over to Akachi and when debt ends up less fiscal and more stalkish. Jake Laverde then let us in on the secret than a bit of glowing in the dark can be good for your Instagram likes before the simply fabulous Sallyann Fellowes closed the show. Sallyann hails from Cornwall, where it’s best to stick your sawn-off shotgun in a paper bag if travelling on the bus to shoot an annoying relative. She is also the owner of the world’s largest collection or artistic dog poo.
So that was Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings and it was a load of fun. Headlining next Sunday we have the hilarious Callum Mackenzie and the simply fabulous Aimee Cooper.
