Monday was another fun night of comedy at The Star of Kings. First to the stage was Seraj Alijan, the John sand of comedy’s Game of Thrones. Next was Mark Vincent, the man with the patented anti-mugging device: his wardrobe. We then had Dipak Patel, a name that varies in pronunciation depending on the georgraphy and politics of the person shouting it. Samuel Love then gave us a tale that was less about a chugger and more a plain mugging. Miraj Mehta then told us why Priti Patel has decreed him “one of the good ones”. If only she’d told the people at the airport this. After Miraj was Auz Thompson, the sexy dyslexic with the penchant for poetry. It was then the turn of Liz Easter, mother of two, wife of one, and recipient of the strangest ever dick pic. Rowan Williams then taught us how to sip down in Chinese before Kim Hope confessed if you scratch her surface you’ll just find more surface. Closing the first half was ASMR Master, His Eminence Yogie Bell (aka Michael Yanny). There’s nothing quite like Yogie to realign your chakras and give life some deeper porpoise.
After the break, and a little arty magic thanks to some audience input and Sophie Bing’s artwork, we got off to a great start thanks to Julianna Dudley. Julianna got straight As at school and got through it all unscathed, alive. No big deal? She’s from the US! Martin Ashworth then told us how rural Devon has changed over the past 30 years: very little other than more meth. Hot on Martin’s heels was Bernard Guff (aka Josh Harvey), myth buster, ghostbuster and ex-Connect Four champion. We then had Alex Howard who has been wondering for some time whether the wasps have been secretly making the honey before Sophie Bing told us why she’s decided to become bilingual and learn Australian. Keeping it all down under, our next act, Darcy Moreland, confessed he’d been alcohol free since 2021, but it was only 2204, so the night was still young. The penultimate act was Declan Evans. Declan lost his dog recently and looking harder didn’t help find it. Neither did the bleeding skull tattoo. Closing the show was the hilarious Alan Jay Byrne, aka the turtle jailer. Alan has an interesting theory about Disney’s relationship with pirates and reckons them might need to have a closer look at their representation.
Well that was Monday night and it was a fun show. Next Monday is G&B’s All Stars Competition Heat #2 where the last of the qualifying acts compete for their place in the All Stars final on our 10th birthday on March 12th.
