Sunday afternoon, June 9th, Star of Kings

Eoghan Collins
Sunday afternoons at The Star of Kings are always a fun show and this week was no different. Kicking things off was the hilarious Kwami Odoom with a retail stand-off that would have been at home in Glasgow. It was then over to Tony Carr and the joys of keeping your house well maintained so the kids have a good inheritance. Dipak Patel then explained what makes a true Brit: colonising queues. After Dipak we had Mark Vincent and how to prep for the inevitable: he’s bought a buy to let funeral plot. Mac O’Donnell then confessed to having his reasons for disliking the doctor that cut his umbilical cord before Eoghan Collins (pictured) showed us his bilingual singing talents with a musical number in fluent dog. Closing the first half was our most recent New Act winner, the brilliant Thomas Round. Thomas told us a tale with an important message: never snog for a dare…especially if it proves your father right.
After the break, and a little magic demonstration of how easy it is to manipulate an audience’s thinking, we swapped MC’s for the G&B debut of Mj Hunter at the helm. The first act to be introduced by MJ was the mellifluous Barbara Fernandez and BPD The Musical. It was then over to Joe Stride and “Why did you like that ho’s Instagram post”, a wonderful game for couples everywhere. After Joe was Em Jay (aka Michal Jenicek), a man who not only stole MJ’s name but somehow made it cooler. Jonny Slater was next with the tale of Dorian Ginger, the Peter Pan of IBS. We then had Dai Lloyd, whose password might or might not have once been “SexyWelshHampster69”. The afternoon’s penultimate act was David Sands. David manages to have a room in stitches of laughter without uttering a single word. Closing the show was the fabulous Calvin Smith, aka Heavy Flo. Calvin gave us an overdue update of the Seven Deadly Sins before leaving us all with a newfound fear of flying.
So that was Sunday afternoon. Sadly, due to the football, we have no show next Sunday, but we’re back on the 23rd with headliner Christopher Donovan.
