G&B’s Growing Old Disgracefully Show

Mark Rivlin
Monday night at The Star of Kings was G&B’s Growing Old Disgracefully Show, our night for acts over 40 and a night definitely not for the kids. Probably the busiest of the GOD nights we’ve had since coming back after lockdown, it was a cracking night. First to the stage was the hilarious Mark Vincent. Mark told us of his first exposure to the literary greats…and where he stuck them. It was then the turn of John Pape who had a recent comedy knock-back, and he’s fine about it…honest! Jo Bodley then told us just how much she enjoys recycling, even her pets! It was then over to Raj Kukadia and the one eyed meat train that needs its break between stations. After Raj was Caryn Ovadia (who also won our 70’s/80’s TV theme tune competition) who met her husband on Tindr. Which was a shock as they had been married 10 years at that point. Hot on Caryn’s heels was Valerie Steele, an ex-work-a-holic looking for her next fix. Theresa Bradstreet was next with her new hobby: yoga. And she’s almost mastered the downward dogging style. We then had the musical Barbara Fernandez and songs to have therapy to before Tony Carr closed the first half with a cracking set explaining the problems with 21st century school discipline and just why Joseph never does crowd work in the Nativity play.
After the break we got off to a great start thanks to Georgia Thorp, the life coach with the aggressive love of humous. After Georgia was Ricky Baker a man who gave us comedy talking like an Egyptian. Adam Nowak then explained the scientifically perfect hug before Nicky Vere-Compton explained the mechanics of the elecro-mechanical plasma drive powering the first flying suacer. Laura Madewell then explained just how to aim big…in carats! Biker Gavin Presman was next with news that he’s punching above his weight before the fabulous Mr Punman, Mark Rivlin (pictured), closed the show with his trademark rapid fire pun-pounding, one-liners.
So that was our Growing Old Disgracefully show and what a fun night it was. Headlining next Monday we have Callum Mackenzie and Mel Owen.
