On Monday night at the Star of Kings, special guest MC Martin Ashworth set the tone for a cracking night of comedy.
First up, Mackenzie Pike talked us through the benefits of living in girls world, a place that sounded far more appealing than the one most of us are stuck in.
Gavin Webb then gave us an unforgettable family story about the time he saw his grandad buying condoms.
Piers Knight followed with a tale of rejection twice for the very same job which proved that sometimes life just twists the knife.
Joe Fry brought a rebellious edge with his anti Gwen Stefani stance before Charlie Firth reminded us in no uncertain terms that misogyny is bad.
Closing the first half, Pete Kinsella had the room howling with his brilliantly self aware set about being sweaty but crucially not the sweatiest man. The first half ended in style and the crowd were buzzing for more.
We kicked off the second half by handing MC duties over to Lucy Jenner, who kept things rolling with her usual silliness.
First up was G&B royalty, Declan Evans, who somehow managed to book his ride home within his very first breath. Next came Aaron Phillips a maths teacher who believes compliments are a suspicious transaction but is more than happy to help with your dodgy fractions.
Following Aaron was Aled Gomer who treated us to both a Welsh lesson and a crash course in the ancient art of cheese ageing. After that, Mafalda explained why googling “how to remove blood stains” has a very different meaning depending on whether you’re a man or a woman.
Oriana Page (pictured) was next, demonstrating her unique technique of using regional accents to talk someone down from the brink. Then we had Gee Watson, a man presenting as old, reminding us all of the cultural importance of Boy George.
Closing the night was the pun-loving Mark Rivlin, who left the crowd wondering about his choice in couples’ activities. At least everyone walked away knowing a lot more about Robbie Williams than they ever expected.
And that wrapped up another fun evening at The Star of Kings.
