Sunday afternoon, August 17th, Star of Kings

MJ Hunter
Write-up by guest MC Lucy Jenner
Fabulous afternoon at The Star of Kings — a stellar lineup and two MCs. That’s right, TWO!
MCing the first half was super sexy Lucy Jenner. (Consensually written by Lucy Jenner herself)
Mark Daniels kicked things off with a historical deep dive through the medium of fabric. Who knew textiles could carry such weight? Next up was James Sutton , who warned us that the Tooth Fairy’s next visit might have to involve the back door. Larissa Shipton followed, introducing us to a version of Jesus Christ with a split personality. Andrew Conway then shared his foolproof tips for avoiding unwanted erections, along with the essential life advice: always remove your teeth. Dan Grennan was next, taking us inside the world of being an undercover police officer. Then came Matthew Mj Hunter (pictured), our very own G&B superhero, who explained how he used his powers to protect his school from the local creep. The cape was metaphorical, but the danger was real.
Closing out the first half was our headliner, Sam Day guiding us through the art of spotting fake meats — all while laying down a hit beat. Because when you’re being lied to by a sausage, at least let it happen in harmony.
The second half kicked off with Martin Ashworth taking over MC duties.
Amber Phillips wondered aloud when she’d finally be issued with her “adult brain,” while Kyle Adams reflected on somehow scoring higher in French than English, despite speaking the latter all his life. Jamima Viner reeled off the long list of questionable types she’s been drawn to, before Steven W. Anderson got stuck into a particular brand of elitism that deserved to be knocked down a peg. Travel tales followed from Declan Evans, whose Spanish holiday had more than its share of stories, and the night was rounded off in style by Calvin Smith, explaining how a sweaty reputation can result in some truly unusual nicknames.
A cracking finish that capped off an afternoon full of laughs at Star of Kings.
