Last night at The Star of Kings was off to a great start, with Matthew Mj Hunter who discovered even babies question his fashion choices – followed by Martina O’Sullivan, who being Irish, loves comedy cause she gets to bomb all over town. Mani Ahmed (pictured) then gave us the toughest part of emigrating to the UK for his parents from Pakistan: the relegation of spices to the British Museum. Next was Rob McAlone. Rob says if you’ve got more gray hairs on one side of your beard, it’s a sure sign of OCD – so he counts them, every day. Becky Mathieson then gave us the best question for any paler people out there – why use foundation when baking flour is so much cheaper. Nigel Wolfin shared the irony of him being an accountant – his life doesn’t add up – before our closing act of the first half, the fabulous Phil Green. Phil has found his element: attending geriatric Glastonbury aka Butlin’s 80s weekenders, and leaving trails of pork scratchings to lead lost divorced men to a safe place for recovery in front of old school TV.
Our second half began with Yohan kwan and his perfect credit card backup – Mummy – before Kate McGhee (aka Kate Mc ) incarnated Demeter, goddess of crops, who is very cross about disguising food for raiders as chicken scrotum. @kierandee shared the trials of being bald at a music event – head banging looks like enthusiastic agreement – followed by @libbyhaigh. Libby has discovered a new low in dating apps: paying for a deposit to make sure you both show up. @gwatson bemoaned the difficulties of having a teenage girl chest – a moral quandary when it comes to his ‘me time’. Next was Paul Bradley who says his dad would spin in his grave to hear him leave his Irish accent for an English one. If only his mum hadn’t installed that revolving door. Charlie Firth shared how well his life is going – he got a weighted blanket that’s so weighted he can now both please himself and throw motor vehicles in a fight. Closing the show was the wonderfully wacky James Townsend. James gave us Gordon Ramsey’s kitchen nightmares…as a recurring nightmare, which by the end made you want to add it to your collection of crazy. He also proudly boasts the time he dressed as a squirrel to break into his GF’s flat to say he’s nuts about her.
So that was our night at the Star! Join us next Monday with two awesome headliners, the simply brilliant Jim Hooker and our very own giant of comedy, the hilarious Matthew Mj Hunter.
