Sunday afternoon, April 21st, Star of Kings

Sarah Rowan
It was a busy afternoon at The Star of Kings on Sunday. First we had our Everything But The Gags workshop and then straight into the afternoon’s show. Kicking the show off we had the brilliant Pete Kinsella and why his dog might be the warm up act for Liz Truss’ book tour. It was then over to Paul Little and why tinnitus is a condition you just have to get used to, a bit like being a step parent. Next was SJ Wyatt who’s a big fan of the Cybermen, but prefers to think of them as the Cyber-not-all-men. Tony Carr was next with how to get your own TV special at The Comedy Store before Mac O’Donnell totted up the cost of his wardrobe. It was then over to Luke McCarthy and just how the government treats the North like an unwanted child. Anneka Sirs then told us about the South Pacific island that worshipped Price Phillip before Pippa Chappell told us about the two kids she grew from seed.Bring the song to the stage we then had Barbara Fernandez and why you don’t want your dad looking at you through rose tinted glasses. Claire Hutchison then explained why the side effects from anti-depressants were just steroids for nuns. Closing the first half was Felix Parkin. Felix is proud of being from telford, which he reckons is best described as if JD Sports made a town.
After the break we got off tho a great start thanks to the hilarious Arthur Mitchell and the sex sounds that shouldn’t be. Sarah Rowan (pictured) then shared the joys of learning about foi gras and stabbings thanks to Glaswegian private education. It was then over to the fabulously funny Daniel May, who’d come from all the way across the pond to have them laughing at his new pick-up techniques. Helen Song then got up close and very personal with some of the crowd before Richard Taylor advised not to name your kids after where or what they were conceived upon. Brando Meredith then gave us some poet’s prose before Declan Evans gave us some Essex wisdom. The penultimate act was Mj Hunter. MJ may not be a sex guru, but he’d do anything for you for little more than a compliment. Closing the show was Chris Ford. From taramasalata, that famous lesbian snack, to yoga, the devils seduction, Chris didn’t do much to sell any copies of watchtower.
So that was Sunday at the Star of kings. Headlining next Sunday we’ve Calvin Smith and Jack Scullion.
