Sunday afternoon at Star of Kings, June 8th

I love Sunday afternoons at The Star of Kings. It’s a very different, more chilled vibe than the evening shows. Sunday afternoon was also our Everything But The Gags workshop, so was a full on afternoon for me. First to the stage was Marcos Brito, our favourite homohopper. Marcos kicked things off with tales of Minnie Mouse as you never knew her. It was then over to Andy Brittain and why teachers should have a fireman’s pole. Next was Gabriel Celaya and why he may any day soon be getting a therapy rebate. After Gabi was Richard Taylor, minus cartwheel, but with Sainsbury’s bag and no Ricketts. We then had Dan Grennan, who has a hard time at weekends, largely due to the fact he looks like an undercover cop. Oliver Wright then told us about the stresses of paying off his mortgage…on his lovely two bed tent. Dipak Patel then pondered over his origins story. Was he a Victorian strong man or a Shoreditch hipster? Hot on Dipak’s heels was G Watson and why people of a certain age shouldn’t be allowed near social media without Gen Z supervision. Closing there first half was Eoghan Collins, a man who’s coming to terms with being an Irishman in London while also managing to grow himself a balaclava.
After the break we got off to a fabulous start thanks to Mj Hunter and the problem with weird, ugly babies. Next was Amish Patel, the open mic surgeon who’s a Welsh racist’s wet dream. Victor Verster then showed the crowd how to woo with heterosexual charisma before Kamien Deane hinted that he may or may not be in disguise and looking for the right fake moustache. Next was Rowan Faife with everything you need to know about the Norwich comedy scene from its packed, open mic theatres to its impressive ethnic diversity. After Rowan was Cameron Holder whose home town is famous for shark attacks, boy racers and stabbings. The afternoon’s penultimate act was Donal Vaughan, the man who loves a Toblerone and a free NHS prostate exam. Closing the show was the fabulous Calvin Smith and his take on the long overdue revamping of the Seven Deadly Sins. I think we can all agree, this could have be his platform to become the new Pope.
So that was another fun Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings. Headlining next Sunday we’ve the rapping riot of Roops and the Whovian hoot that is SJ Wyatt.
