Thursday night at The Royal George was the perfect end to what has been a great week at G&B. All week we’ve had packed rooms and some utterly stellar sets. Weeks like this make my job the best in the world. First to the stage was the hilarious Rohan Ashar and that famous game from York: Where’s Wallinder. It was then over to Eve Perry, who recently gave birth…to a burp! Next was Nigel Wolfin, a man with a particular talent for naming his kids. Lauren buck the told us just how single she is…technically vintage. After Lauren was Tony Carr – who was on particularly fine form. Tony assured us that it’s never a good idea to take your blood pressure while watching PornHub on your phone. Amber Phillips was next with news that she does not now, nor never has, licked lampposts. We then had Shahar Helevi, a lady with a name she assures us that can only be pronounced by Middle Easterners and cock lovers. After Shahar was the fabulously funny Eddie Rojas, who almost explained just what dingo style was before Tom Draper told us of the fascist state that is the Museum of Childhood. Closing the first half was Chiff Powell, the very man you want if having issues with your microwave clock. Chiff’s from Hull, where’s there’s only two jobs: nicking and stealing.
After the break we got off to an awesome start thanks to Calvin Smith, a man very much looking forward to the material he can glean from his first colonoscopy. It was then over to Dicki Minaj, aka Marcos Brito, the DJ who just loves a Beyonce request. Jonny Bolstone then found his potential new porn star name before Sikander Zaman told us how a nickname became a slur. After Sikandar was Abdullah Tahir and why dreaming every night is just plain weird. Phil Blunt then gave us an unexpected insight into one of the few benefits of President Trump. Hot on Phil’s heels was Lauren Rivers, who loves a romantic weekend marinading in tropical waters…off the A40. Dylan Almeida was the evening’s penultimate act and he gave us the tale of the worst ever stag do. Closing the show was the fabulous Martina O’Sullivan. Martina says she’s actually started to enjoy the English, despite their complete inability to organise a decent funeral.
So that was a cracker of a show at The Royal George. Headlining next Thursday we have Stuart Turner and Jonny Brace. See you then.
