Sunday afternoon, October 29th, Star of Kings

We had a fun afternoon at The Star of Kings on Sunday. First to the stage was Phoebe Taylor and why how long it takes you to stop calling your mother mummy dictates how much you’ll one day inherit. Frances Jane as next with why it’s not easy being a symbolic poster. Cuthbert Lambert then explained just how he’s mastering the art of gaslighting before Ollie Taylor pondered the mystery of the rear view mirror. David Robinson then told us how easy it is to get sex toys from Amazon. After David we had Jack Spoole and why sometimes just like riding a bike isn’t such a great metaphor. Hot on jack’s heels was Karan Mehra who explained just why Indian kids smash US spelling bees. It was then over to Mark Masson and why we’re all basically impatient and crap at taking directions. Barbara Fernandez then told us of the places you can’t go and the thing you can’t do. Neil Ben was next with how to laminate a lama and inspire a dolphin before Callum Mackenzie gave us the joys of the art gallery bellenders.
After the beak Adam B gave us some colour changing magic before Calvin Smith rewrote the seven deadly sins. It was then over to Rex Yardley-Rees, a man who’s not sure what the Rex is short for. It was then the turn of Maxim K, a guy who was once Russian, but is now ambiguous Eastern European. We then had Zak Baker, who told of the worst place you’d want to find a solitary coat hanger. The afternoon’s penultimate act was Declan Evans, who let us in on just what Sponge Bob’s side hustle was. Closing the show was the brilliant, slightly deviant and utterly shameless Paul Merryck (pictured). Paul was on great tour de force form, taking the crowd through the ins and outs of moral compass lacking lifestyle. Utterly hilarious! You can catch Paul again headlining at Arch1 on December 6th.
So that was Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings. Headlining next Sunday we’ve another absolute G&B favourite, the absolute master of surreal storytelling, the simply brilliant Steve Vertigo.
