Sunday afternoon, Star of Kings, October 6th

Kim Hope
We had a fantastic Sunday afternoon of comedy at the Star of Kings! Kicking things off, Mani Ahmed took to the stage with some strong opinions on conspiracy theories they’re probably all government inventions anyway. Next up was Calvin Smith, who, after months of testing out material, finally succeeded in getting his number blocked by the Samaritans. Nick Bain followed, and he brought one of his boyfriends along just to snag an extra stamp on his loyalty card. After Nick, we had Mac O’Donnell, who thinks that some solo travelers are really just solo because no one wants to join them. That said, he recently embarked on a solo trip of his own—purely coincidental, of course. Tony Carr then reminded us of the eternal pastime of teenage boys, while Connor Bell told us he had gout, which as he put it is the kings disease… the burger kings. Stephen Portlock tried to auction off his hand sanitizer to the audience, and up next Liam Mcgough, who seemed particularly interested in the sanitizer given how much Stephen was sneezing! Nate Patel (Nitish Patel) mistook marathon runners for rioters and worried he might have accidentally given them a new idea. Closing the first half was the unstoppable Kim Hope (pictured), who made full use of the stage—she didn’t give us a strip tease so much as a strip threat.
After the break, Declan Evans opened the second half he has recently started dating twins and developed a unique method for telling them apart: just look for the moustache. Next, Richard Taylor who took a break in the middle of his set to pop to the toilet. Jonny Slater, always ready to educate, opened by mansplaining mansplaining to us before delving into how couples sleep despite each other. Tim O’Hare gave a brilliant review of Spider-man 2 and its allegory for erectile dysfunction. Marcos Brito showed off his versatility by rapping and performing comedy at the same time—a true multi-talented artist. Mark Vincent gave us a poignant yet hilarious take on how his parents have both suffered from a severe case of long-term relationship. Closing out the afternoon was the fabulous Barbara Fernandez, who arrived in her church clothes and sang us through some of her more wild life experiences.
So that was Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings. Headlining next Sunday we’ve the utterly hilarious Sally Firth (aka Siân Spry) and the mind bending, magical mayhem of the amazing Stuart Turner.
