Rabiah Coon
It was a buzzing Thursday night at The Royal George with two brilliant female headliners, an equally excellent MC, and the comforting presence of our comedy parents, Barry and Kath.
First up was Sam Day, who kicked things off by turning the room into a choir. He’s basically Ed Sheeran if Ed Sheeran had asthma and better jokes. Aarian Mehrabani kept the singing going with She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain, but made it weird by asking who exactly would be waiting. Then came Rosie Wood, who approached comedy like a duck to water if that duck was very dry and incredibly funny. Steve Mattey thinks Question Time is more of a threat than a show, and that TikTok has officially replaced cocaine as the go-to weight loss method. Sam Hainsworth asked the big questions, like what you’d do if your nan punched a cow. Sofia Canoescaped MAGA America because the only way is Essex. Swings and roundabouts. Tracey Bowman revealed that pegging is in and tumble drying is out. We don’t make the rules. Closing the first half was the brilliantly sharp Rabiah Coon (pictured), whose mum bought a burial plot as an investment, whose gran stalks exes via the obituaries, and who’s dating purely for a better surname.
After the break, Calvin Smith kicked off part two a tall man with legal problems that may or may not overlap with Snoop Dogg’s. Mel Dram is tougher than Jesus and whose happy place is at Heathrow Terminal 5. Susan Heather Kitcatt used to work at the Samaritans…until she told someone to stay on the line. Barbora Beránková has been reflecting on life her official review: not worth it. Jonny Blostone gave us tips on surviving wasps and praised the late Queen in equal measure. Thomas Tajo explained how being partially blind helped him dodge cigarettes and identity theft. Tom Bath repped Gen X and slagged off every other generation, especially the fragile Gen Z. Nick Morey declared Botox is dead, long live depression. Closing the night was the amazing Barbara Fernandez, who’s now happy because most of her childhood bullies are dead. She’s also not sure if she joined a far-right party or just got diagnosed with DID. Either way, it was a great set.
Overall was a cracking night of comedy at The Royal George, all held together by our fabulous MC, Lucy Jenner!
