It was a wonderfully busy afternoon at The Star of Kings on Sunday. First to the stage was the hilarious Jack Scullion, whose biggest achievement at school was, ironically, being the tallest boy. Next was James Sutton, a man from a lights on kinda family. It’s a wonder they ever survived the Blitz. Ollie Taylor then told us he reckons the DVLA is run by people with an abnormal fetish for level crossings before Mark Vincent let us in on Tolkein’s real inspiration for Lord of The Rings. Becky Jade then had us wondering if she maybe has gone too far in her belief the you chuck out everything that doesn’t bring pleasure. It was then over to Tracey Davies and just where you never want to discover last week’s toad-in-the-hole. After Tracey was Steve Garry, a CurlyWurly curious, warm chocolate enthusiast. Fred Belll then explained why your life might depend on learning your times tables. It was then over to Rob Ash who gets a crazy amount of comedy inspiration from the monsters/pupils in his class. We then had actress Emmy Fyles, whose agent sells her on the grounds she does an immersive portrayal of a fifty-something Moroccan man. Closing the first half was Steven Mayne and why you don’t know heckling until you’ve been dissed by a toddler who can barely speak.
After the break we got off to a cracking start thanks to Declan Evans and why fish bars might be the best money saving tip instead of cremation. After Declan was Matt Scott whose nan can make any waiter cry at 20 paces. It was then over to Claire Hutchinson who thinks accountants use their personality as contraception. Hot on Claire’s heels was Onojie Idemudia who reckons UK gangs might be the way forward for racial harmony. Next was Lewis Crook, a man who is Bath, which ironically at six foot three is something he can’t fit into. We then had Akachi who recently took up roller skating, but so not for any reasons you might think. We then had Ant Obolenas and everything from Kanye impressions to public masturbation and the inside spec on data entry. The afternoon’s penultimate act was James Mileham and why Kiddy Fidlers might not be the best name for a shop that sells violins for child prodigies. Closing the show was the incredible Steve Vertigo (pictured), the absolute master of the bizarre storytelling romp. Steve opened the door to his weird and wonderful world and invited us in. We learned a lot about giraffes, the joys of being a palm tree and just when Trump Towers came to Bethlehem. Brilliant!
So that was Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings. We have no show at The Star next Sunday, but we’re back on November 19th with an afternoon of comedy and Magic with headliners Adam B.
