Sunday afternoon, June 1st, Star of Kings

Mike Russell
It was a very busy afternoon at The Star of Kings yesterday! First up was Lauren Buck who, much to the delight of our military audience members, brought her very own weapons of mass destruction. Next was Neil Davies. Neil says he has proudly raised 4 kids – just not all from the same dad. We then had Tracey Bowman, who’s been studying hard for her LGBTQ+ exam by taking gay friends to the zoo to check out the bears and otters – she can’t wait to see a twink. Wolfie McPherson then shared her face is best described as ‘angry cat against a window’ – which at least keeps the retail Karens away. Andrew Norwood learned that gaslighting isn’t actually setting your bits on fire – before Jimbo Beaumont gave us a concert that he thought was going to be in Wembley in front of a 4-piece band – but in a pub fronting a 4-wheel chair. It was then over to Larissa Shipton. Larissa has done lots of grounding activities for her mental health, but it turns out the best thing was getting some Prozac pina coladas. Next was Rob McAlone. Rob says his OCD was a bit of a turn off for his ex – and on…and off… Closing the first half was the glitzy fabulousness of Amber Phillips. Nothing’s worse in Amber’s world than sending an email to your colleague Igor and having autocorrect send it to ‘shortbread’ – except for maybe her sore throats at the end of a busy day on webcam entertaining all those people (ahem learners) on video.
Our second half began with Tony Carr. For Tony, gone are the bygone days when when you developed a relationship with your intended’s dad faster than the pics of your bits developed at the camera shop. Mike Russell (pictured) was next. Mike says the hardest thing about starting standup comedy at 76 is…standing up. Though the little blue pills help, it seems. Next was Tony Matthews. Thanks to Tony, we had the Dalai Llama on stage, all the way from the far East…Poplar. Grace Kelly Miller then shared the unexpected benefits of endng a relationship over an internet video chat – you virtually (and literally) break up. Next we had Marios Hajipanayi – available to anyone with a Santa fetish – before Daniel McLeod (@danmac) shared that he’s not one for BJs, wanking or spanking – but a well-placed finger or two…or 3…or 4… can do the trick. Just don’t tell his mum. @geoffreed then introduced us to Terror the T-Rex, who, at 15 million years old, has now learned to read minds. Our penultimate act was Eddie Diaz (aka Eddie Rojas). Eddie says he’s not good at ghosthunting – ironically, as he’s American and armed – he just seems to make more ghosts. Closing our show was the wonderfully funny Stanislav Gunko. Stan hails from mother Russia, or as the locals like to call her, a MILF – Motherland I’d Like to Flee – where the word ‘war’ is banned, which makes Tolstoy’s Special Military Operation and Peace quite an interesting read.
So that was our afternoon at The Star of Kings. Join us next Sunday for the musical mayhem of Eoghan Collins and the fabulously funny Calvin Smith.
