March 12th was our birthday night and final of our All Stars competition. The first half of the evening, however, was a wonderful celebration of faces old and new. The wonderful Steven Mayne opened the show with a lovely celebration of G&B and a mini roast of me
It was then over to the original face of G&B, the G&B clown himself, none other than Steve Adams. After Steve was the fabulous, frenetic fun of Johnny Murph. After Johnny Barbara Fernandez delivered a little musical number she’d composed for the occasion that was a definite one night only performance
The legend that is Alex Martini was next with some fabulous nostalgia as only he could deliver. It was then over to Mr Corporate, Phillip Cornwall, and a buzz speak set that had some gasping for breath as their inner thought rhinos had seizures. Callum Mackenzie then reminded us why British beaches aren’t just used condoms and freerange turds before Mr Punman, Mark Rivlin hit us with another AK47 of oneliners. Closing the evening’s first half was an act from our very first show 10 years ago, the Crown Princess of batshit crazy, the glorious Siobhan Dodd. Bringing back some of her old classics for the evening, with some boob and butt art, Siobhan was the perfect act to close this part of the show.
After the break we got into the All Stars competition and what a one-up that was. Will Slack, Kim Hope, Arthur Mitchell, Katie Tweddle, Tiger, Chris Ford and Declan Evans battled it out for the cash prize and the title of 2024 G&B All Star. Once they’d all done their sets, and while the votes got counted, last year’s winner, the brilliant Sallyann Fellowes, came back to entertain what had turned out to be one of the loveliest crowds we’ve ever had at G&B. Every one of the competing acts gave truly stellar performances, but we had to have a winner. 3rd place went to Chris Ford, 2nd place was Declan Evans and the evening’s winner was the simply hilarious Kim Hope.
