Adam B
Monday night at The Star of Kings was nicely busy evening packed with some great comedy and a spectacular magic show from Adam B. First up was the fabulously funny Callum Mackenzie and the tale of the little prince and the balding baby racer. It was then over to Barbara Fernandez and her wrecking balls and their natural powers of destruction. We then had Alex Howard, a man who drives a bus, when the real drivers aren’t watching. Paul Irwin then told us that he used to get fed up with being asked what he wanted be when he grew up…by the pupils in his class! After Paul was Tony Carr and 60’s counselling for sad boys before the fabulously crazy James Wood showed us just how many bananas a growing dragon needs. The one liner brilliance of Oliver Wright was next with just why he wouldn’t mind being micro-chipped…being micro-chipped…micro-chipped…chipped… Martin Ashworth then gave us a glimpse into his CV which has considerable experience in being made redundant. Jamie Boder had us imagine Phil Mitchel being nappy changed before Kevan Hall told us about badly failing a recent test. A personality test! After Kevan was Connor Bell who seems to be very generous when it comes to sharing his capacious hoodies. We then had the return of Mike Strogi and fried chicken existentialism before Michal Jenicek confessed to being from the country that has the most attractive petrochemical plants. Closing the first half was the musical hilarity of Kyriakos Vlachos and the real truth about gay privilege.
After the beak we had a preview of Adam B’s (pictured) debut Fringe show, Welcome to My Reality. This was a wonderful journey into Adam’s neuro-diversity via the medium of magic and illusion. I’ve seen Adam’s magic and showmanship evolve over the past 10 years and if last night is anything to go by, he’s going to have a wonderful Fringe, as are the audiences that go to see his show.
So that was last night at The Star of Kings. Next Monday is the first Monday of the month, which means it’s G&B’s monthly New Act Competition, where the acts compete for the cash, the trophy, the paid guest spot and a place in next year’s All Stars competition. Returning to do her paid guest spot we have last month’s winner, the fabulously funny Indi Madray.
