Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings, September 29th

Sunday’s show at the Star of Kings started off with Rohan Ashar, aka the brown Hulk, who can not only throw a chair like a cricket ball, but get an autism diagnosis in the process. Next up was Mark Vincent who, as all of us, was born to a single mum. After Mark was SJ Wyatt, who has lots in common with Dr Who – they both have companions who end up dead. Elspeth Reid then asked the question: Where have all the weird kids gone who ate glue and made shampoo from conkers? They walk among us. Nate Patel (Nitish Patel) then gave us the best way to distinguish between an angry swarm of racists and half marathon runners: it’s all in the shorts. Tony Carr says the stigma around sex workers has been lifted…but just try telling that to his wife. Closing the first half was the fabulous Ollie Taylor. Ollie dished the dirt on what Sir David Attenborough is really getting up to (sniffing lines off of snow leopards, it seems) and the best way to get rid of rats: loads more bins, much to the consternation of postmen everywhere.

Our second half kicked off with Caylyn Sheldon, who does comedy not because she can get laughs even at a poetry night, but to get away from her partner’s post-surgery playlist. We then had Stu Capper (Stewart Thomas Capper), whose parents won’t cough up for therapy: they never subscribed to the rule of ‘you broke it you pay for it’. Adam Dorr (pictured) conjured the image of the most delicious cereal ever – Cardinal Crunch: half the calories with twice the guilt – before Marc Cohen shared the secret to having the awkward sex talk with your kids: make sure they’re as uncomfortable as possible so you can enjoy it. Closing our show was funny man Calvin Smith, who was fortunate enough to discover the 7 deadly sins don’t include noncing, and if you’re lucky enough to go to a prog music gig, you’ll get all the perks: wanking, amphetamines and autism.

So that was our show – join us next Sunday afternoon at The Star of Kings on October 6th with the mellifluous marvel that is our very own songbird of silliness, the hilarious Barbara Fernandez.
