Thursday night at The Royal George was an evening of wonderful Christmas campery. Kicking things off in true festive spirit was Barbara Fernandez and a little Christmas ditty that’d have the religious right in a spin. It was then over to Rohan Ashar, the comedy circuit’s second best Rohan. After Rohan was Chris Cowan (pictured) and a literal ted talk. Tony Carr then gave us the real story of Christmas. Yas, queen! After Tony was Clare Summerskill who told us of zodiac compatibility. For example, she’s a Libran and her ex is a narcissist. Jack Clerkin then confessed to having a spectacularly hot, steamy, imaginary sex life. We then had Mj Hunter who quickly learned that it wasn’t the night to shout out “who wants to be the Lord of my ring?”. Closing the first half was the fabulousously funny David Ferguson. David introduced us the the rare butt plug Barbie before wondering if Northern Ireland is the bisexual of countries.
After the break, and a little seasonal mind reading, we got off to a great start thanks to the brilliant John Pape and just what omnisexual might actually be. After John was Archie Keen, a man whose full name has a ring of an Agatha Christie victim. It was the the turn of Chris Wilkinson, the asthmatic wheezer of Chinese dragonry. Alina Lew then told us about first time prep and how to get the most from a disappointing situation. It was then over to Phillip Reiss who reckons the public transport slogan should actually be “see it, say it, sort it yourself”. The evening’s penultimate act was Mark Vincent who was born to a single mum, which is technically the case for everyone. Closing the show was G&B’s reigning queen of there All Stars, the fabulous Kim Hope. While not doing well as John Pape’s stunt double, Kim is only too glad to be over here for Christmas; Australia just doesn’t have the climate for faux cold during the festive season.
Well that was a fun night. Next Thursday is our final show of 2024 and headlining we have Pete Kinsella and Charlie Firth.
