We had a stellar lineup on Wednesday night at The Bell. Opening the evening was Eoghan Collins, who shared the joys of visiting his parents, complete with his mum’s unique DVD commentary during family movie nights. Next was Mark Vincent, who explained his unconventional dining habits — eating dinner in his pants because, well, he ran out of plates. Mac O’Donnell followed with the observation that being a prince should be complaint-proof, but in true British fashion, Prince Harry found a way. Gordon MacSween then brought some innovation to the night, unveiling his creation of the world’s first pee-controlled video game. Auz Thompson (pictured) engaged the crowd with a game of “how single are you?” (spoiler: very). Steve Tait shared his ambitions to launch state-of-the-art software that no one will use in over 50 countries, followed by Jim Hooker, who reminisced about his very Essex parents and his dads camping adventures with a bit of… ambiguous pegging. Closing the first half was Seam Anderson, who recently got so high he discovered he could taste colours.
The second half began with Mani Ahmed, who, thanks to being in a relationship, recently discovered he’s been using his hand towel all wrong. Nick Bain brought stories from an Irish funeral — essentially an Irish wedding, but with one less drunk. Up next, Phil Green has been trying to convince his family members to change their names to something more funny. Luckily his sister, Greg Wallace, agreed. Nina then shared the perks and quirks of being married to a tall, handsome, gay man. Brian Byrne took the stage next, explaining how growing out his hair and adding glasses earned him compliments — though now he just looks like Jeffrey Dahmer. Declan Evans told us of his recent doctor visit, though not in the right setting. Also has he mentioned he’s from Essex? Closing the show was Callum Mackenzie, who reflected on the joys of holding a creative writing degree — the only qualification that earns less than no degree at all.
So that was Wednesday at The Bell! Next week marks our final gigs of 2024, and we’ve got two fantastic shows lined up. Tuesday night is G&B’s Christmas Fundraiser, where all proceeds from the evening will go to FCENS, a homeless charity dedicated to providing overnight shelter and helping people find permanent homes. Then on Wednesday, it’s G&B’s Nightmare Before Christmas. Don’t miss it!
