Mac O'Donnell
It was an absolutely jam-packed, fabulous night at Royal George Charing Cross Road on Thursday. There’s nowhere quite like The George on nights like this. MCing the first half of the show was Martin Ashworth and the first act he brought to the stage was Vyome Singh, who assured us you would’t want to have snogged him back in the 1800’s. Its was then over to Nigel Wolfin, who made a calculated risk with the calculator tee-shirt as a calculated comedic device. Next was Charlie Firth, the man who can bench press a car…if he’s been particularly “frustrated” that week. After Charlie was Roy Michael, with Pete Docherty’s cheese addiction and ghosting Yoko Ono. Gavin Webb then told us why you should never let him buy Christmas presents from London’s famous toy shop. Next was Marcos Brito, aka Dicky Minaj, the public toilet enemy #1. It was then over to Elle Simmons, who openly admits an English person dies inside every time she makes a cup of tea. The puntastic Ricky Baker was next with news that he’d once played Hamlet at chess before Megan O’Brien confessed to being a ginger Brummie with Irish loins. Closing the first half was Sonny Savage and why it’s tough to be a Cornish academic.
After the break, when I took back the MC reins, Nick Bain got things off to a great start with the joys of tramp stamping and throuple juggling. Next, doing their first gig with G&B, was Oriana Page. Oriana reckons, in social situations, she’s slightly awkward, in the same way Trump’s slightly right wing. It was then over to Kate Mc and why day pyjamas are an important part of her day. Dan Grennan was next with old school fanny tickler grooming regime. After Dan we had Rosie G and the news that marshmallows don’t do well in sweaty heat. Aarian Mehrabani then told us about his first 5 star review…and its subsequent contact list. Hot on Aarian’s heels was Declan Evans, doing his first gig in front of his mum. On a completely separate note, Declan’s now looking for somewhere to live. Our penultimate act was the man no G&B night is complete without, the hilarious Mj Hunter. MJ shared with us the tale of how traumatised he was seeing his first tequila moon cup. Closing the show was the simply hilarious Mac O’Donnell (pictured). From family internet history to the Aussie version of Schindler’s list and why Prince Harry’s a dick to how to clean up crime in comedy, Mac had the crowd roaring with laughter and begging for more.
So that was another cracker of a night at The Royal George. Now in a turnaround to our usual week’s gigs, we’re not going to be at The RG next Thursday (July 24th), but will be there Sunday afternoon (July 20th) when Barbara Fernandez and Kim Hope will be headlining. Hopefully see you then.
