Jimbo
Write-up by guest MC Barbara Fernandez
What a night we had, at the Star of Kings! A packed house with a truly fabulous audience and all the acts were brilliant. It all began with Sam Day, who loves twirling to Robbie Williams’ ‘Sing when you’re winning’ with his fav Norfolk-themed tea towel. Jacob Tidmarsh gave us a ballet battle plan for muggers, complete with a Swedish German accent, before Sonny Savage shared his latest south London discovery: a lamb shank isn’t actually a type of blade. Billy Jennings bemoaned his oh-so-evocative initials before Jimbo Beaumont (pictured) did what no one at G&B has ever done: proposed to the MC – Jimbo’s life is just beginning: after all, he’s only 31. We then had Rosie Wood‘s otherworldliness before Nina shared how fabulous her hubby is: he’s tall, adorable and gay, so they do everything together – including mani pedis. Next up was Matthew Mj Hunter who, despite getting ribbed at comedy nights, has discovered a shortcut to getting compliments: having his boss let him go. Closing the first half was the fabulous Tony Carr. Tony misses the days when he could go get plastered at the pub – without having to bring along the baby. And it only gets tougher: try getting front row seats for your kid’s Xmas show – no parent is fearful the kids will start working the crowd.
Our second half kicked off with Calvin Smith who loves testing new material on the Samaritans – till they tell him where he can find the nearest jumping off point. We then had 劉韶卉 (Alina Lew) who is prepared for any man to enter her life – or something else – thanks to her well-stocked pantry of body spray and downstairs wipes. Jackie Sea reminisced about great sex – wondering what it was like – before Rachel Carmichael’s ponderings on porn: it does pay, but you might get stabbed in the eye. Gareth Beavis then shared the joys of parenthood: sharing your fav Xmas films with your kids – better Die Hard than the new Thomas the Tank, it turns out. Gordon MacSween then took to the stage with his invention allowing the guys to play candy crush in the loos before Mani Ahmed posed an excellent question: during colonialism, what did the invaders do with all the seasoning? Mac O’Donnell then gave the best example of his friend’s intelligence levels: wanting to please his girlfriend, he proceeds to her downstairs by reciting the alphabet. Closing the show was the hilarious Rohan Ashar, who is both autistic AND Indian, so yes he’s a maths whizz. Turns out the autistic spectrum is actually a side road to get to Leicester, where you can visit India without a visa and experience month-long Indian weddings that might be longer than the marriage.

So that was our night at the Star! We are taking a few Mondays off for the holidays, so our next Monday back is January 6th to kick off 2025 with our New Act Competition. December’s winner will return to do their guest spot and after that it’s only one more competition show before the first of the 2025 All Star heats.
