Sunday afternoon, December 15th, Star of Kings

Ian Bowden
Sunday afternoon’s show at The Star of Kings was an absolute cracker of a show. First to the stage was Steven Mayne and the joys of the family festive get together. Next was Eoghan Collins and that question many families debate at Christmas: is that Kevin Spacey of the MGM lion? Predators all look the same sometimes. It was then over to Connor Bell and the face we wear when opening those secret Santa gifts. After Connor was Julie (aka Tracey Bowman), who hopefully got herself some decent sales commissions on an ample range of adult toys. It was then the turn of Marcos Brito and tales from Gran Canaria lounge clubs before Richard Taylor warned that it’s always best to learn to swim before jumping off a diving board. It was then over to Roy Michael, aka John Lennon’s stunt double, if Lennon was alive…and homeless. Sara Louise Aston then told us of the perfect handbag, one big enough for all your accessories from purse to gimp mask. Closing the first half was the prop comedy madness of Richard Woolford and his impressive knees.
After the break we got off to a hilarious start thanks to Barbara Fernandez and her song dedicated to the collapsing male tent. It was then over to Carl Reid, aka Joseph King, and the comedy of the bowels. After Carl was Alex McKenzie and how a pipe can change a man…and his century. The hilarious Nick Morey was next with news that he has a simply tragic spacial awareness, according to his driving insurance company. It was then over to Godfrey Mercado and the deep rooted fear of HR and the office Christmas party (never eat a hot dog at a party!). Next, and grabbing the crowd’s attention with puns, singled and a riot of sartorial colour was Ian Bowden (pictured). Man of mystery, Ian Brawn (aka Jon Wickham) was next, but we don’t talk about him being there, not matter how much they torture or bribe us. After Ian was Phil Green. Phil had planned to do a bit about his past midlife crisis, but after many of the previous acts he suddenly realised he was just fine. Closing the show was the magical mane of the brilliant Stuart Turner. From some hilarious mind reading to card magic and a freebie hug, Stuart had the crowd in stitches and awe from start to finish. And if you want to see more of Stuart you can catch him, and yours truly, in Christmas Jitters on December 28th at Network Theatre.
