Luke Harrower
Last night at the Star of Kings, saw a stellar lineup that brought the house down. Opening the show was G&B’s poet laureate, Tom Draper, who transformed the chaos of a particularly stressful World Book Day into a beautifully crafted poem. Casey Stephen Jack followed, reassuring us all that his kisses with his mum are entirely non-sexual. Luke Harrower(pictured) burst onto the stage and confessed that he must be a bad person because when he donated money to charity his bank thought that was ‘suspicious activity’. Nathan Rene then gave us a glimpse of life with ADHD — by managing to get sidetracked in the middle of his own ADHD joke and forgetting where he was. Jackie Sea shared his struggles with BuzzFeed quizzes repeatedly testing if he’s gay, although he’s sure the questions aren’t equally weighted. Tony Carr suggested a rather extreme method of redecorating your street: run someone over. Shaun England shared that his Apple Watch told him to try stand-up more often… so here he was. Ben Marciano had us laughing about his family systematically blocking him on Facebook. Eoghan Collins then reminded us that while he might not look like a typical Irishman, he does look like a typical prick. Closing the first half, the hilarious Aaron Levene Comedy had regrets about choosing Chernobyl as a holiday destination.
The second half kicked off with Mani Ahmed, who shared the chaos of a tent mix-up at a recent festival. Lauren Rivers took to the stage next, proudly announcing that she’s finally found a boyfriend with her favourite trait: compliance. Tony Matthews gave us the lowdown on his attempt to teach a levitation course — though it never quite got off the ground. Steve Anderson brought rapid-fire one-liners, admitting he was mainly here because he needed an alibi. Gordon MacSween gave us insight into his latest literary masterpiece, breaking down the fine line between a tosser and a c**t. Tamzin Rafn had us in stitches with tales of her tragic dating history, from priests promising to take her to “00-heaven” to a man with “beer is best”tattooed on his neck. Andy Brittain reminisced about his childhood, growing up in a time when Microsoft was just a cruel nickname from his peers. Daryl Neil Robinson recounted a recent social media encounter where he was called a c**t — but saw the silver lining, as at least this time he wasn’t called a fat c**t. Declan Evans shared a story about his mum accidentally baking a sponge cake with mystery white powder she confiscated from him — an incident that resulted in his nan learning to breakdance. Finally, the show wrapped up with James Townsend, who’s been bingeing Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares — and let’s just say it’s left a lasting impression on him. Sadly there’s no show next Monday, but we’re at The star on Sunday with Mark Vincent and Sally Firth headlining.
