It was a quiet but entertaining night at The Bell on Wednesday. Opening the show was Amber Phillips, who lives next to the world’s longest pleasure pier but, rather fittingly, no one enjoys it. Proof, she says, that length really isn’t everything. Jack Clerkin then took us back to the prehistoric era with her musings on what cavemen might have taught in their sex-ed classes. Jordan Raymond gave the audience an essential crash course in modern gay terminology. Freddie Cornwell compared dating him to signing up for a phone contract, you get a connection, but there’s always a better deal out there somewhere. Eoghan Collins reminded us that he’s an accomplished theatre actor, which in showbiz terms translates roughly to a failed TV actor. Nick Morey shared tales of his non-profit business, which is going brilliantly apart from the minor issue that it wasn’t supposed to be non-profit. Closing the first half, Lucy Jenner warmed hearts with the story of the best day of her life: meeting her girlfriend. Though, to be fair, she was even more excited to meet the Sixth Doctor.
After the break, Charlie Firth opened the second half with tales of trying to film videos in his bedroom, only for his flatmates to assume he’d gone mad. Sounds like the perfect CV for an influencer. Kyle Adams then explained the joys of fatherhood, including the eternal struggle of choosing a favourite child (spoiler: it’s always whichever one isn’t there). Sam Hainsworth shared stories from his life growing up as a traveller his only real dream was to have a bedroom without a handbrake. Danielle Scott proved she’s a master of interviews having had thirty-seven jobs, which makes her the catfish of corporate recruitment. Susan Heather Kitcatt shared her Waitrose woes, lamenting the unreasonable expectations of actually turning up on time and doing work. Closing the night was the pun-tastic Mark Rivlin, who fired off one-liners faster than the audience could breathe covering everything from economics to the conception of his children.
So that was a great show. Huge thanks to our MC, MJ Hunter. Join us next Wednesday at The Bell for some Dark Delights!
